My favorite Super Hero was always Wonder Woman–she could get it all done and she would look great while doing it. Β When things got out of control in her life, all she had to do was find some private corner, spin around and then go save the day. Β Β She did it all while not even breaking a sweat or messing up her hair!!
I don’t know about you but sometimes I wish I could turn into Wonder Woman and go it all done in a flash. Β As women, often we feel obligated and responsible to do everything for everyone. Β But how do you prioritize things when all of your things are a priority?? Β The truth is we are only given 24 hours in aΒ day and how we manage those precious 24 hours will make or break us at some point in our lives.
In order for us to be at our best, we need to have control over our time. Β Our time is precious and can never be returned to us. Β When we learn to prioritize our time, we will in turn, have more time to do the really important things in life. Β Here are seven steps on how to prioritize when everything is a priority.
- Write it all down.Β Create a daily To Do List. Β From changing the sheets on the bed to getting some new products up onto your website; create a list of everything that needs to be done for the day. You can either keep your list on some handy scrap paper or get yourself a pretty notebook. Β It doesn’t matter as along as you write it all down.
- Determine which tasks are most important. Β Β Now take your To Do List and circle the top three most important things on your list. Β Those three things become your top priority items. Β Everything else will fall into place by value of importance and effort of task.
- Post your To Do List somewhere highly visible. Β Post your daily To Do List somewhere where you can see it and access it easily. Cross things off your list as your accomplish them. Β Crossing things off will give you momentum to keep moving down the list.
- Be Flexible. Β Life happens; the washing machine over flows, your boss throws another project at you, your internet goes down. Β These are things that you cannot control but are things that you need to handle and sometimes, these things must get moved to the top of your list. Β Life will happen and when it does, we just have to take a deep breath, keep going and think to ourselves that this too will pass.
- Give yourself 24 hours. Β Β When you are asked to add another volunteer task to
your already busy life, give yourself 24 hours before answer yes. Β By giving yourselfΒ someΒ time before giving a yes answer to someone, you can evaluate if this task will fit into your schedule, how much time will this require of you, and if it is even worth your time. Β Remember, you only have 24 hours every day to work with.
- Know when to cut.Β We all can only do so much. Β Knowing when to cut out a few things by either delegating them to someone else or simply giving them up will give us control over our time. When we are spread too thin, we become ineffective. Β It is better to do a few things with excellence than to do several things with mediocrity.
- Me Time.Β Nothing will refresh you and give you a new appreciation for things than a little bit of Me Time. Β Me Time is just when you do something for yourself. Β Just a few minutes here and there doing things for yourself can reap great personal benefits. Β CLICK HERE for a few Me Time ideas.

Great advice. I get so overwhelmed sometimes and I needed to read this!

Life can be overwhelming but when you break things down into little steps, it all becomes more manageable.
These are great ideas, especially the me time!!!
Thank you. Me Time is my favorite. I wish I had done more of it when my kids were younger.
This was very helpful. It’s so easy to get overwhelmed with everything that you need to accomplish.
Great! THank you. I am glad that you found it helpful.
I agree that writing it all down is key! And sometimes…you just need to cross a few things off and realize that they won’t be done. π
We all only have 24 hours in a day. It just comes down to prioritizing the important things.
These are really great tips. I like how you also included me time. If we don’t make ourselves a priority, our priorities will overwhelm us.
My kids are older now but “Me Time” is something I should have taken more time to do. This was all before the world wide web….ha
Good points- firm believers in the first point writing stuff down and I keep it visible- it helps to keep me on track.
Writing it down make it real and doable!
Yep; got to have that ta-da list and just start in and cross off as they are completed, saying “ta-da” It is so uplifting to know you have completed that next thing on the list. If I don’t get everything on the list done, I just put it on the next day’s list and start fresh in the morning.
You are so right! I want it all to be Ta Da–you are done and more on to the next thing on the list.
Number 3 is important to me! If I don’t leave the list out so I can see it…..I totally forget about it, or I get way off track. Out of sight, out of mind, right?
I am the same way. If I do not right it down and keep it where I can see it. It never will happen.
Great tips! I need to select a few top ones each day. The hard part is being ok with only getting those few done! Thanks!
I agree the hardest part is just being ok with what doesn’t get done–hard to let go!
Great tips! To do lists are my jam! But I never give myself 24 hours to complete my stuff- I need to!
Tabitha–start small with a To Do list of just one or two things, get those done and then add two more.
I live and die by my to-do lists, and everything gets scheduled-even my workouts! Good advice as always!
I agree with you!! If it doesn’t get schedule, then it doesn’t happen.
Great tips. Thanks for the reminders!
Glad they could be helpful!
Awesome advice!
Thank you!
This is great!! I currently practice all of these and it is very helpful π thanks for sharing!
I am glad that you liked the tips. I appreciate your feedback.
Great suggestions! I would be lost without my to-do list and my “me time”.
I am the same way. I do not know what to do unless it is written down!
This article is beautiful. Thank you.
No. 2 seems a bit hard, since one feels that everything is important. I already write things down and do the crossing out part. I even do little tasks so I can have more things crossed out than things needed to be done, but the acts of prioritising and actually are hard.
Again thank you for writing this π
Nada
Thank you Nada. Number 2 is difficult but important–we can’t do everything. Pick the most vital tasks and go for it!
Bethie, great article! I’ve been releasing a lot of Stuff from my life (see today’s and yesterday’s blog posts), and you’re still motivating me to go at it better. I love your formula for prioritizing. We CAN do it! Thanks–
Yes, we can!
Hi Bethie! I LOVED your “Me Time” list! π Taking a lunch break is something that I’m making myself commit to, instead of just eating my food in front of my computer at work. That gives me time to think about things other than work, or, if needed, at least to think of it with a fresh mind!
Great post!
Dani
Thank you! A fresh mind is a working mind.
I’m the Queen of Organization but you can always learn to do better — what you said about “Be flexible” I can learn from that. Thank you
Life happens–flexibility helps.
I use a “to done” list instead. As I complete a task, I add it to the list. It gives me a greater sense of accomplishment, because “to do” lists often sit there, glaring at me, telling me how guilty I should feel for not getting more done.
I like the To Done list idea. it is always good to see what you have accomplished.
WOW, I need this list! I definitely need to get things in order so not to waste time.
It is so important to use our time wisely!
