What Walt Disney and I Have In Common~~It All Started With A Mouse
Walt Disney and I can claim the same thing–both of our businesses started with a mouse. His business is just a little bit larger than mine but maybe one day……ha. People often ask me how I started selling online. I have to answer with, “Well, I wanted to go see Mickey Mouse.”
My story begins almost 14 years ago–I have a hard time believing it has been that long. We had just had our third and final daughter. I was a stay-at-home mom with three kids and a husband with two jobs. My parents have always been big on family vacations. They offered to us the wonderful opportunity of a Disney trip paid for by them which would include hotels, park tickets, and one meal a day. All we had to do we get there. My reply, of course, was, “ABSOLUTELY!!”. But there was one catch, we had to get there on our own and pay for our other meals. All I could think of was that we were going to Disney no matter what!
My husband was already working two jobs and did not have time for a third. Since we had three very young children, I figured I could work between midnight and 6 am. Sleep wasn’t near as important as Disney! Well, that didn’t really work out as I thought it would.
A friend of mine was selling her children’s outgrown clothes on eBay. I asked her if she could teach me how to do that. She came over one evening and we talked about what was selling, how to sell, how to set up an account but first I had to decide on a name. With eBay, you have to use a unique name that no one else is using. I tried Busy Mommy, Busy Mom, Mommy of this and that, etc, but they were all taken. My husband said, “How aboutBusybethie–-that is your name and you are busy”. The name was available and the rest is history.
I was able to sell enough of my children’s outgrown clothing and purchase airfare to Walt Disney World, purchase a few meals and have several visits with Mickey and Minnie, Cinderella and her Fairy God Mother. From that trip, family love of Disney has grown and we have had so many wonderful memories from our trips and have met some life long friends.
That little bit of selling for a couple of months now has turned into many years. I now have a fabulous online eBay clothing store called Busybethiewith focuses on the Busy Woman, a great website with the same name, Busybethie.com, my Busy With Style blog and weekly newsletter called Inside Style. God has truly blessed my business and has enabled me to meet some wonderful people through this journey and I hope to meet many more in the future. My businesses are progressing well, I’m really happy with all that’s been achieved so far. Whilst my businesses are still growing, one of my friends did suggest that I consider looking into seo for niche sites to see if that increases my online traffic and gets more people visiting my website and eBay store. I’ve not thought about that before, but it might actually be quite beneficial. I’m always looking at ways to make my business more successful, so that could be one method I should try next.
