As I get older, my desire for Christmas gift has changed or I guess we could say, “developed”. I rarely want anything but when I do, I just go buy it. So I guess you could say, Christmas gifts are hard to pick out for me. I do not want any type of kitchen or bathroom product for Christmas and I like to pick out my own clothes. So my family has the dilemma of figuring out what to get me.
This year, my mom gave me my favorite gift. My mom doesn’t give money or gift cards for gift–she likes to give “stuff”. Sometimes that means PJ’s, underwear, socks or an ice scraper. This year, she did something so very special for me–a calendar. Now I have several actually calendars, a phone calendar, a school calendar, a YMCA calendar but this calendar from her is extraordinary. One, because it came from the heart and two, any gift from my mom at this point in my life is special.
My mom made for me my own personalized “Beth” calendar with all of those special pictures of my kids from our times together throughout the years. All of those special trips to Disney when the girls were little and just completely worn out from all of the fun. The girls in their princess dresses that now they would never touch, our beloved Washington DC trip with Uncle Bill. Formal night with my hubby. Daughter’s first time driving, senior pictures, the list goes on and on. I have forgotten about lots of these moments but my mom did not. She holds them dear to her heart and now she has given them back to me once again. I almost cried when I opened the gift–so special.
Thank you Mom for the wonderful and perfect Christmas present. I will treasure it forever.
